“Birth Trauma at my age?”

A Patient asked me a typical question the other day. “What caused my neck problem?” He was shocked to discover that the reasons why many individuals suffer from neurological problems and health challenges as adults are from subluxations that were caused during the birth process. Signs and symptoms typically don’t show up until later in life, yet rob the individual of their health, vitality and wellness. Dr. Godfrey Gutman, medical researcher, discovered that more than 80% of the infants that he examined shortly after birth were suffering from injuries to the cervical spine (the neck), causing all types of health problems.

“If a child is subluxated at birth, that child’s perception of the world is distorted and their ability to respond to the world is compromised. This has severe implications throughout the life of that child! We are dealing with the single most devastating event in most individuals’ lives, it’s really that important. Every child should be checked for subluxations as soon as possible after birth.” Dr. Christopher Kent.

Dr. Towbin, of the Harvard Medical School’s pathology department, found that “the birth process, even under optimal conditions is potentially a traumatic, crippling event. Spinal cord annewbornd brain stem injuries occur often during the process of birth but frequently escape diagnosis.” As a chiropractor, we would much rather examine and adjust every newborn than to have to deal with a lifetime of health problems. We would rather adjust the newborn than wait 26 years and learn that the young person developed gall bladder disease in the areas where the nerve tissue was injured and compromised since birth.

At the Rockefeller Institute, Dr. Arpad DeNagy determined that interference to the nervous system, due to spinal stress, resulted in serious damage within a short period of time. He recommends that stabilizing biomechanical care should begin as soon after birth as possible. Furthermore, he indicated that this spinal stress tragedy may take sixty years to develop fully! “The entire birth process, from conception and pregnancy to delivery and post-delivery, can lay the foundation for later mental and physical disease. We now know that the trauma surrounding the birth process is engraved as imprints in the developing nervous system of the fetus and newborn.” Arthur Janov, Ph.D.

Has Your Birth Process Caused You An Early Demise?

A Boston University pathologist demonstrated that there is severe spinal damage to the infant as a result of the “usual” birth process. “The real cause of our demise is not diseases, but the spinal stress that happens at birth. This robs us of our innate potential for a very long, very healthy, and very happy life.” “The child will have less than optimal physical, mental, and social well-being. The birth damaged child carries the seeds of premature death with him at all times.” Studies at Columbia University have shown that the average child loses seventy percent of his biological potential by the age of seventeen. Traumatic birth syndrome, whether it results in immediate symptoms or diminishes your human potential over the course of yourbaby lifetime must be dealt with immediately.

Infants, Cow’s Milk & Type 1 Diabetes

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus type 1 (also known as T1DM; formerly insulin dependent diabetes or juvenile diabetes) is a form of diabetes mellitus that results from autoimmune destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. The subsequent lack of insulin leads to increased blood and urine glucose. If left untreated it is usually fatal. Although it can affect any age group it is most commonly discovered before the age of 15.

What causes Type 1 Diabetes?

Twin studies reveal that when one develops T1DM the other twin has less than a 33% chance of developing it. The most common theory is that a viral infection may produce an autoimmune response. The viruses most commonly considered are enteroviruses such as rubella, mumps, rotavirus, cytomegalo- virus and coxsackie. Many of these are first introduced in the child with childhood vaccination programs. However, there is a more recent discovery of a unique avenue of development…

The Devil in the Milk…

dairy cowIn 1992, a team of Canadian and Finnish researchers reported an important discovery in the New England Journal of Medicine. Examining blood samples from 142 children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, they found that each one of the children had antibodies in their bloodstream that were primed to attack cow’s milk proteins. These antibodies had arisen in response to cow proteins in their infant formula but these antibodies were also capable of attacking the child’s pancreatic beta cells. It turned out that a portion of the cow’s milk protein was biochemically an exact match for a portion of human insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. The antibodies that arose to meet the challenge of the cow’s milk protein ended up attacking the child’s pancreas also. We call this autoimmunity… the child’s own healthy pancreatic cells were being destroyed by “friendly fire.”1 It has since been found that some cow’s milk proteins ingested by a nursing mother end up in her breast milk and then in the baby’s digestive system starting the process of autoimmunity even though the baby didn’t directly ingest the cow’s milk.

So, What’s a Mother to Do?

Simple, my recommendation is that until your child’s immune system is fully and completely developed; do not give your child any cow’s milk or products containing cow’s milk (that means you might have to read labels). And while you are nursing don’t consume dairy.

Did you know… many women are seeking chiropractic care during their pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a special time in a woman’s life. A common experience for numerous women is… back pain, induced by carrying the extra weight, changes in posture, etc. Are you (or someone you know) pregnant and having a really hard time with backache? Maybe this is the first time you have ever felt back pain. Chiropractic truly can be a life saver for pregnant women who are experiencing discomfort. Did you know that chiropractic can potentially relieve much of the aches, pains, and general discomfort you’re experiencing? Consider that chiropractic is all-natural and is safe for your child, with no side effects and no potentially harmful drugs entering the bodies system.

If you’re experiencing discomfort during your pregnancy, you’re not alone! It is estimated that 2/3 of American women will experience lower back pain by the 36th week of pregnancy. Many women are told by their physician that they simply need to wait until after birth to be alleviated from their pain. This is not true. Chiropractic care can treat lower back pain and often leads to a faster & less painful labor process.

Why is low back pain prevalent amongst pregnant women? (1) Women experience significant weight gain that adds stress to the lower back, (2) their center of gravity changes during pregnancy which causes muscular imbalances and muscle fatiguing and (3) they experience hormonal surges which cause joint laxity and decreased joint support.

Chiropractic care can & should be considered throughout the whole pregnancy process. Before a woman becomes pregnant, a proper examination can reveal imbalances in the spine or pelvis that can lead to lower back pain during pregnancy and neuromusculoskeletal problems after birth. After pregnancy, many women still experience lower back pain due to stretching of the ligaments. Treatment for this should be done before the ligaments return to their pre-pregnancy state. Chiropractic is safe, has no side effects & is all natural. If you’d like to see how chiropractic care might ease the pains of discomfort, please call me if you have any further questions!
